Publication Ethics
The Journal of Global Learning and Teaching (JGLT) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics. We adhere to the guidelines set forth by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and expect all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher, to adhere to these ethical standards.
1. Responsibilities of Authors
- Originality and Plagiarism: Authors must ensure that their work is original and properly cites the work of others. Plagiarism in any form, including self-plagiarism, is unacceptable.
- Data Accuracy: Authors must present accurate data and findings. Fabrication, falsification, or selective reporting of data is unethical and unacceptable.
- Authorship: Only those who have significantly contributed to the research should be listed as authors. All co-authors must approve the final version of the manuscript and agree to its submission for publication.
- Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or other conflicts of interest that could influence the results or interpretation of their research.
- Acknowledgment of Sources: Proper acknowledgment of the work of others is required. Authors should cite publications that have influenced their research.
2. Responsibilities of Editors
- Fair Play: Editors should evaluate manuscripts solely on their academic merit, without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
- Confidentiality: Editors must maintain confidentiality of submitted manuscripts, disclosing information only to those directly involved in the evaluation and publication process.
- Conflict of Interest: Editors should avoid any conflicts of interest and must not use unpublished information from submitted manuscripts for their own research without the express written consent of the authors.
- Decision-Making: Editors are responsible for making publication decisions based on the manuscript’s importance, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s scope, as well as the reviewers’ comments.
3. Responsibilities of Reviewers
- Confidentiality: Reviewers must treat the manuscripts they receive as confidential documents and must not share or discuss them with others except as authorized by the editor.
- Objectivity: Reviews should be conducted objectively, with constructive feedback provided. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate.
- Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers should identify relevant published work that has not been cited by the authors. Any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published paper should be reported to the editor.
- Conflict of Interest: Reviewers should not review manuscripts in which they have conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors, companies, or institutions connected to the papers.
4. Handling of Ethical Issues
- Corrections and Retractions: If significant errors or ethical concerns are discovered in a published paper, JGLT will work with the authors to issue corrections, clarifications, retractions, or apologies as appropriate.
- Investigation of Misconduct: In cases of suspected ethical misconduct, JGLT will follow COPE’s guidelines and procedures to investigate and resolve the issue. This may involve communicating with the authors' institutions or other relevant bodies.
5. Publisher’s Responsibilities
- Ethical Oversight: The publisher of JGLT is committed to ensuring that all aspects of the publication process adhere to the highest standards of ethical behavior. This includes supporting the editors, authors, and reviewers in their ethical duties.
- Integrity of the Academic Record: The publisher is committed to preserving the integrity of the academic record, including issuing corrections or retractions when necessary.
By adhering to these ethical guidelines, the Journal of Global Learning and Teaching seeks to maintain the trust of the academic community and ensure the highest quality of scholarly publication.
